Neighborhood Committees


PUEBLO is in the midst of conducting 60 house meetings for the House Meetings Campaign. All 3 North County Committees are currently working to build their membership base, and will begin meeting regularly in December 2012. 


Santa Maria


Housing Committee

Meets Thursdays at 7 pm

This committee focuses on ensuring that renters knows their rights and have access to safe, sanitary, and secure housing.  A few of the committee's victories so far have been conducting renters rights workshops, collecting renters' surveys,  pushing they City to place traffic calming measures at dangerous curves and completing an 8 week renters rights and organizing training workshop.  The committee often works on policy efforts in partnership with the Rental Housing Roundtable.  

 

 

Youth Committee

Meets Fridays.  Time varies, please call 805-922-4447 to inquire. 

The Youth Committee has worked to improve bus services for students and low-income workers in rural neighborhoods.  The committee has also coordinated Financial Aid, AB540 informational workshops.  The Youth Committee also works to get the youth registered to vote in time to participate in upcoming elections.  



Immigration Committee

Meets Mondays at 7:00pm

This committee has won several victories, including pushing for more just checkpoint policies and bringing back the Mexican Consulate despite threats from the Mayor of Santa Maria.  Currently leaders are collecting signatures for COPA, an initiative that would provide undocumentd immigratns who work protection from deportation and an opportunity to pay income taxes.

The Santa Barbara Immigration Committee has won victories around pushing for more just checkpoint policies and coordinating local actions around comprehensive immigration reform.  Currently leaders are collecting signatures for COPA, an initiative that would provide undocumentd immigrants who work protection from deportation and an opportunity to pay income taxes .  The committee is also running a large scale house meeting campaign to expand its membership base.
